08. Quiz: Building Dashboards & Stories with Trina

Download the asylum_seekers... data.

Open Tableau. Connect to the data using the Text file extension.

Change the Value column to Number of Asylum Seekers.

Click to a new worksheet.

Move Origin to the Columns. Move Number of Asylum Seekers to the Rows.

Quiz 1 below.

Create a filter for the Date, which you can do by dragging to the Filters table

In the popup asking how do you want to filter on [Date]? Select Year. Then click ok on the next pop up.

Select from the drop down on Date in the filter box Show filter....

Change the filter to a Single Value (list).

Create a new worksheet.

Double click Country and move Number of Asylum Seekers to Color in the Marks table.

Notice our data isn't exactly the same as Trina's data.

Create a new worksheet.

Change the Date to continuous.

Move Date to the Columns and Number of Asylum Seekers to the Rows.

Drill down to the month level.

Quiz 4 below.

Create a new dashboard.

Drag each of your worksheets onto the dashboard.

Change the size width to fit your screen.

Use the drop down in the top right of each of your worksheets to remove all the titles.

Click the drop down in the map worksheet to select Use as filter.

Click the drop down on your Year of Date filter to select Apply to Worksheets > All Using Related Data Sources.

Select the story button at the bottom of Tableau.

Drag a worksheet into the main screen and add a caption.

Click and drag an additional worksheet to the right of your first. Add a second caption.

Click and drag your dashboard to the right of those two worksheets.

Click the presentation tool at the top, so you can play your story.
